THERE ARE SO MANY KINDS, HOW DO I CHOOSE A PAD FOR ME?
The first thing to know is there’s no right or wrong way to handle menstruation. That’s why there are so many pads to choose from. Your choice comes down to personal preference and what best fits your body and your period.
Here are some tips to get you started.
- The first time you get your period, you might want to try a regular sized pad or tampon.
- If the regular size seems to be filling up too quickly, then try a longer size pad.
- If after a few hours it looks like there’s not much blood there, then you can switch to a regular pad or a lesser absorbency tampon.
Some girls use two different pad types or different absorbencies—one for their heavy days and a lighter absorbency for their lighter days. There are also special pads for the nighttime. These are longer and wider in the back, so they can fully protect you while you move around in your sleep and get a peaceful night of rest even on those days.
Like most things, it depends. Just so you know it may seem like you bleed a lot during your period, but most girls normally lose between 7 and 10 teaspoons of blood during an average period, which really isn’t a lot.
Ultra thin pads are a great way to get the same absorption as regular pads, but with more discretion.
As you sleep, you move around a lot more than you might think.
